His blue cotton shirt stands out joyfully against a chocolate-coloured wall.
That too brings on the Nausea. The Nausea is not inside me : I feel it out
there in the wall, in the suspenders, everywhere around me. It makes
itself one with the café, I am the one who is within it. "
JEAN-PAUL SARTRE, LA NAUSée.

The project explored the relationship between space and mental state, particularly in the context of depression. The aim was to examine how mental state influences our perception and relationship with space, as well as the impact of space on our psychic state.
A reinterpretation of Sigmund Freud's study room served as the basis for the setup of the installation. It is structured around a physical threshold, where users are invited to transform their "skin" into a garment specially designed to interact with the space. The installation's aesthetics, rituals, mirror and sofa are designed to prepare the user for a process of personal transformation.

During the experience, the user is encouraged to sit in front of an interactive mirror, eliciting emotional stimulation by asking questions designed to provoke empathy, active perception and interaction. This mirror, equipped with an emotion recognition system, mediates between the room and the user, communicating the dominant emotion and its intensity to the environment. Finally, the user is invited to embody a state of melancholy, euphoria or anger in a virtual space superimposed on the physical space using virtual reality goggles.

Physical space and virtual space coexist. Physical space acts as a basic structure, a diagram on which virtual space is superimposed.
The sofa plays a central role as a link between these two worlds. Thanks to its specific shape, it places the user in one specific reclining position conducive to immobility, where the clothing pattern blends into the environment. At this point, the user is ready to enter virtual space.
The exploration of this virtual space is presented as a self-affirmation, a self-affection process, where the user enters into a reflexive relationship with himself. The different atmospheres of virtual embodiment are articulated around two main dimensions: the aesthetic and the cognitive event.
